Why Couples Choose a Working Bison Ranch for Their Wedding

At Lucky 8 Ranch, we believe your wedding deserves more than a pretty backdrop and a five-hour rental window. It deserves room to breathe. When you get married here, you’re not squeezed between another event the night before and a brunch the morning after—you have a private, tented venue on a 3,000-acre working bison ranch, with only one wedding per week on the calendar. Wide-open views, starry Colorado skies, bison herds grazing in the distance, and a team quietly handling the tents, power, restrooms, and ranch logistics so you can actually be present with your favorite people.

We’ve Thought Through the “Unsexy” Stuff So You Don’t Have To

Beautiful views are great—but what really matters is that the day runs smoothly. At Lucky 8, every package is built so shuttles, tents, power, restrooms, and weather backup are already thought through.

Here's the cliff notes:

  • Shuttles: Guests meet in Steamboat and ride a scenic shuttle straight to the venue—no guessing, no DIY car chaos.

  • Infrastructure: Tents, power, and real restrooms are included, so you’re not building a venue from scratch.

  • Weather: There’s always a clear backup plan under the tent if Colorado decides to be dramatic.

  • Bar & Vendors: BYOB with licensed bartenders and your choice of professional vendors who know how to work a ranch.

At the end of the day, we want you and your guests to arrive, look around, and think, “They’ve already thought of everything.”

Answers to the Big “But What About…?” Questions

1) Do you host more than one wedding per week?

No. We host one wedding per week, so you’re not squeezed between other events. That gives you a calmer setup window, a quieter teardown, and a ranch that feels like it’s truly yours.

2) How do guests get to the ranch?

Most couples have guests meet in Steamboat and ride shuttles out to the ranch. It keeps things simple, safe, and on-time—and the drive through the valley feels like the start of the adventure.

3) Is there lodging on the ranch?

There’s no overnight lodging on the ranch right now. Most couples book hotels, condos, or rental homes in Steamboat and use shuttles to and from the venue.

4) Do you include a wedding planner or coordinator?

We provide a venue manager who focuses on the ranch, tents, power, and access. You’ll also work with a separate planner or coordinator who runs your timeline, décor, and overall flow. We strongly recommend (and in most cases require) at least a professional month-of or day-of coordinator.

5) Can we bring our own alcohol and vendors?

Yes. We’re BYOB-friendly with licensed/insured bartenders, and you’re welcome to bring your own professional vendors who meet our guidelines. Once you’re booked, we’ll share a curated list of local pros who already know the ranch.

6) What do couples typically invest in a wedding at Lucky 8?

Most of our full weekend and full-scale weddings end up in the mid five- to low six-figure range, depending on guest count, package, and priorities. On your intro call, we’ll walk through realistic budget ranges so you can see whether we’re a good fit before you fall in love with the view.

If we didn’t hit your specific question here, ask us on your intro call—we’ve probably seen a version of it before.

Every couple we work with is looking for something a little different: privacy, real Colorado ranch energy, space for a full weekend with family and friends. The best way to know if Lucky 8 is right for you is to see how your vision lines up with what we do best. Start by grabbing our Ultimate Steamboat Wedding Guide and Wedding Info Packet, then we’ll hop on a quick intro call to talk through your date, guest count, and priorities—no pressure, no hard sell.
